PMP Haweswater Aqueduct Maintenance Contracts

C0461, Haweswater IR

Problem: How to restrain the valve control headstocks with a design load of 40N.
Background: When 2 Rotork actuated headstocks were operated to raise/lower the 48" valves, the access landing on which they stood vibrated severely causing concern for the safety of the valves and the access platform.
Solution: Design, fabricate and install a restraining frame to transfer the operating loads to the shaft walls photo photo.

C0422, Croasdale Shaft, Haweswater Aqueduct
Problem: How to remove 29 steel landings with had no access ladders; since these had already corroded away.
Background: A redundant 80m deep x 5m Ø shaft was located in marshy ground on the moors of The Forrest of Bowland. The only man access was by a 1.2m square opening in the centre of the concrete roof slab photo photo. An inspection of the shaft revealed that the steel platforms were badly corroded which gave serious concern for the safety of the aqueduct below photo photo.
Solution: Lower 2 suspended cradles into the shaft and, using Oxy-Acetylene burning gear, cut all steel sections into short handleable pieces that could be loaded into the man access cradles photo photo
